Paul is dead (Photo: The Guardian)

Anti-vuvuzela campaigns in Europe, North America and now South Africa have attacked the most audible symbol of the 2010 World Cup. Yesterday more bad news: Paul The Octopus, the “tentacle tipster” that emerged as one of the tournament’s most popular characters, has died. Paul is dead! Like The Beatles, it was fun while it lasted . . .

One reply on “RIP Paul The Octopus”

A big loss to world football, but I suppose Paul, in his own marine way, enjoyed his role in the historic South African 2010 World Cup, and did not want to spoil his glory by staying on too long … my people (the Bukusu of Western Kenya) say, “the champion dancer doesn’t appear on stage twice”, … translation “when you pull off a mercurial performance on stage, don’t try to repeat it, you may fail the second time and spoil it all.
